SPECIAL TO THE ADVOCATE
TROY – Troy University’s Concert Chorale will ring in the holiday season with a free concert on Nov. 29 at 7:30 p.m.
“Tidings of Joy” will be performed at Park United Methodist Church in Troy.
“This fall concert consists of a program of traditional and newly composed Advent and Christmas choral music,” said Dr. Diane Orlofsky, a professor of Music in the John M. Long School of Music who is Director of University Choirs.
“These pieces include a few of the masterworks of holiday choral literature, including the Christmas Oratorio of Camille Saint-Saëns and the Fantasia on Christmas Carols by Ralph Vaughn Williams,” she said.
Other works to be performed include “WelcomeYule,” “Hodie, Christus Natus Est,” “Angels, from the Realms of Glory,” and “I Sing of a Maiden.” Many of these works include vocal soloists and chamber ensembles, chosen from the Concert Chorale’s membership, and instrumental soloists, including organist Dr. William R. Denison and cellist Katerina Juraskova.
An added feature of this year’s Fall Concert, Orlofsky said, was the addition of members of the Wallace Community College Choir from Dothan, who will perform in two works. That choir is directed by Claudia Bryan.
