Crenshaw Christian Academy had no problem with Chambers Academy on Friday night, earning a 36-13 win on homecoming.
The Cougars rolled up 339 rushing yards on 46 carries.
Gavin McKenzie led the way with 99 yards. He had touchdown runs of 12, 13 and 21 yards.
Will Moses was close behind with five carries for 85 yards, and Gunnar McCollough had 15 carries for 83 yards.
Shaun Lewis accounted for CCA’s other two touchdowns with runs of 23 and three yards as part of his 44-yard total for the night, and Alex Bowen also had five rushes for 25 yards.
From the passing side of the offense, McCollough was 2-8 with 53 yards passing, and both of those receptions came from Austin Brown.
The Cougars used the strength of their running game to pull out to a 27-7 lead at halftime, and CCA put it on cruise control from there.
“We got to play of lot of ‘two’s that have been practicing hard,” said head coach Roland Jones. “Our defense gave up one long pass in the first half, but played well.”
“We’ve also got a lot of guys doing well on offense,” he said.
The defense also put points up on the board late in the game when Trent McGough recorded a safety for the Cougars’ final score.
Chris Wooten led the team with eight solo tackles, while Rann Smyth recorded seven solo tackles and two assists.
Will Moses had six solo and one assist, and Nick Henderson also added five tackles.
Next week, the Cougars will travel to Lakeside.
“We’ve got to keep our focus,” Jones said. “We need to keep improving and work on being team-oriented.”
