The Luverne Police Department is investigating a series of armed robberies that occurred at Oakwood Apartments last Friday and on Monday.
The first incident occurred around 11:20 p.m. on Friday night, said LPD investigator David Sankey.
At that time, a couple at the apartment complex was held at gunpoint and made to drive to a local bank and withdraw money from the ATM.
“The suspect stayed in the vehicle with them and held a gun on the female at all times,“ Sankey said.
After driving back to the apartment complex, the suspect told the victims not to report what had happened.
The police report lists the amount stolen as $570 cash.
The victims didn’t report the incident, and around 7:40 a.m. Monday morning, the male victim was taking trash to the dumpster when he was again accosted by the suspect, who again brandished a gun.
Sankey said that a neighbor also came outside and was held at gunpoint along with the couple.
The suspect held the couple and neighbor in their apartment until the banks opened at 9 a.m., and both the couple and neighbor were forced to withdraw money while the suspect held the gun to the wife.
The police report on the second incident lists amounts of $1,200 and $400 as stolen.
Neither incident was reported to law enforcement until Monday morning.
The suspect is described as a black male.
“On Friday night, he was wearing a ski mask, long-sleeve black t-shirt, blue jeans, light brown boots and a gray cap with sunglasses on top of the mask,” Sankey said. “Monday morning, he was wearing a dirty white t-shirt, blue jeans, boots and the ski mask.”
Local law enforcement is continuing the investigation, and Sankey said he would like to thank the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office and Investigator Ronnie White for their assistance.
“They have helped a lot so far with the investigation,” he said.
