Monday’s County Commission meeting saw representatives from both Troy Cable and the South Central Alabama Broadband Commission (SCABC) in attendance.
Much of the work session was spent in discussion between the two groups, trying to resolve the problem of an overlap in broadband coverage of Crenshaw County.
The County Commission previously signed a resolution to become a member of SCABC, but rescinded that membership during the meeting.
In a letter written to the SCABC commission, the Crenshaw County Commission expressed that they wanted to return to a more neutral position until the coverage issue between SCABC and Troy Cable is resolved.
Several members of the commission expressed concern that their resolution would give SCABC leverage over Troy Cable during negotiations.
In other business, county administrator David Smyth told the commission that the Social Security Office in the county courthouse will close at the end of this month and will remain closed in the foreseeable future.
Funding has been severely cut, and Smyth said that those looking for information will have to call another office, go online or drive to the nearest office.
The courthouse will also be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day.
