Shortly before 3 p.m. this afternoon, the Brantley Police and Volunteer Fire departments responded to a cut natural gas line on East Emmitt Street.
During construction, a six-inch, high-pressure gas line was severed, and about eight nearby houses were evacuated in addition to the road being blocked, said Fire Chief Harry Driggers.
Southeast Alabama Gas also responded to get the situation under control.
Work was nearing completion around 5:30 p.m.
