Last year marked the Great Alabama Homecoming, and the town of Rutledge is continuing the new tradition with its second annual Homecoming Weekend this Saturday and Sunday.
“We’ve expanded the events this year,” said Beth Rogers, who has helped organize the event.
Last year, the weekend centered around the Rutledge Town Hall, but this year’s events will also incorporate the Rutledge Primitive Baptist Church.
“Dr. Pat Floyd donated the bells from the old church at Vernledge, and that’s going to be one of the new sights at the Rutledge Church,” Rogers said.
Among the events planned for the Primitive Baptist Church grounds include arts and crafts vendors, entertainment by several local artists, a welcome-home tea and a beauty pageant.
There will also be a car, bike and truck show at Town Hall, with 13 trophies set to be awarded.
Food will be available at both locations on Saturday.
On Sunday, there will be a church service and dinner on the grounds following.
“I think the weather will be good, and we hope everyone will come out to join us,” Rogers said.
