Rain prevented the Fort Dale Eagles from finishing up planned tournament play last week, but not before they dominated Sparta 17-1, followed by an 8-5 victory over Crenshaw.
Beverly said Sparta is not typically a powerhouse for baseball.
“We still didn’t hit as well as I thought we should,” Beverly said. “They just didn’t play good defense.”
The Eagles finally found their groove against Crenshaw around the third inning, Beverly said.
Chase Whiddon hit a double, followed by a spree of hitting from the Eagle bench. Skylar McKeown blasted a 3-run homer to help Fort Dale rack up 6 runs in the third.
Cade Tillery pitched against Sparta, giving up 2 hits and one earned run, striking out 8.
Hunter Armstrong took the mound against Crenshaw, striking out 10 and giving up 3 earned runs and 4 hits.
