Fort Dale teams advance to region semi-finals

Girls: Fort Dale 37 – Springwood 22
The Lady Eagles managed to overcome a sluggish start to beat the Springwood Wildcats Thursday in the first round of the region tournament at Huntingdon College.
Fort Dale was led by Jessie Langford with 11 points and Anne Matthews with 9. Sarah James and Murphy Middleton both had 5 steals and Middleton, Matthews, Katie Wilson and Anne Carol Branum all had 6 rebounds.
The Lady Eagles advance to the region tournament semi-finals against Glenwood Friday. They are assured of a spot in the Elite Eight of the state tournament next week.
Boys: Fort Dale 50 – Macon East 47
Fort Dale beat second seeded Macon East in the first round of the region tournament. The Eagles trailed the first 3 quarters before taking the lead on a Stephen Till basket with 5:10 remaining in the game. The teams exchanged baskets before Stuart Mathews hit 2 free throws with 50 seconds left to give Fort Dale a 4 point lead and the Eagles held on for the win.
Hunter Armstrong had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead Fort Dale and Stuart Matthews scored 11 points.
The Eagles advance to play Hooper in the region tournament semi-finals Friday. They too are assured of a spot in the Elite Eight of the state tournament next week.
