The men and women behind the wheel of the big yellow buses are going to feel the love this February.
The Butler County School District will join thousands of districts across the country to celebrate the 4th Annual Love the Bus Program this Valentine’s Day and honor the drivers who transport more than 2,000 students safely to schools in Greenville, Georgiana and McKenzie each day.
“We are very excited about taking part in this program to show our appreciation for all our dedicated drivers in this district,” said Dr. Tera Simmons of the Central Office.
“Our teachers will be able to log into www.lovethebus.com to download an educator’s toolkit to incorporate Love The Bus into their lesson plans. We hope to get everyone-faculty, students and community-involved in this event.”
Elementary students (K-4) will get to participate in a coloring contest in their schools. The winner’s artwork will be recognized at the board meeting on February 22.
“Students will also be encouraged to make interactive valentines to give their drivers on Valentine’s Day,” said Simmons.
Students in grades 5-12 who ride school buses will have the opportunity to submit testimonials about their bus driver, explaining why their driver is special to them. The testimonials should be submitted via email to schoolbuscouncil.bm.com to be uploaded on the American School Bus Council’s Love the Bus website. In addition, a copy of the testimonial should be submitted to Dr. Simmons at the Central Office by Feb. 8. A winner will be recognized at the February board meeting.
The entire community is invited to participate in a special reception for the drivers set for 5 p.m., Feb. 22 at the Central Office Boardroom.
