Gennie Mae Ollison

Mrs. Gennie Mae Ollison departed this way of life on Jan. 16, 2011. Funeral services were held on Sat., Jan. 22, 2011 at St. Francis Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Lewis officiating. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery with Hudson Funeral Services of Greenville directing.
Gennie Mae was born in Greenville on March 27, 1932 to the late Mrs. Gennie and Lillian Briggs. She confessed Christ at a young age and joined the St. Francis Missionary Baptist Church where she was a faithful worker in the church. She served in many capacities, including the choir, pastor’s aide, Missionary Society, trustee board, and attended Sunday School. She was also a member of Queen Elizabeth Chapter #278 Order of the Eastern Star, and served as Associate Matron for a number of years. She was also a member of Zeta Amicae (Friends of Zeta).
Gennie Mae met and married Arthur Lewis Ollison and to their union five children were born. Two sons, Rayfield and MacArthur, preceded her in death, along with a grandson, Roderick; six sisters, Lee Maude, Helen, Sadie, Voncile, Marie and Olee, and two brothers, Willie Frank and Jimmy.
Life’s memories hold a lot for the family to cherish but she will forever be remembered in the hearts of those who loved her dearly: a devoted daughter and granddaughter, Lillian and Reneasha Gardner, Greenville; two sons, Robert Ollison, Greenville and John (Ruthie) Ollison, Lisman; two sisters, Mazie Jackson, Greenville, Frances (Eugene) Robinson, Ft. Pierce, Fla.; one brother, Eddie Joe Briggs, Ft. Pierce, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Mattie Ollison, Birmingham; eight sisters-in-law, Betty Rogers, Greenville, Inez Savage, Georgiana, Gladys Jackson, Ruby Ratcliff, Lithonia, Ga., Lula Briggs and Daisy Robinson, both of Greenville, Linda (James) Newton, Valley. Willola Ollison, Miss.; three brothers-in-law, Johnny Jackson, Camden, Willie J. Brown, Ga. And Eugene Brown, Greenville; grandchildren, Derrick Ball, Detroit, Mich., Michael T. Ollison, Birmingha, Cedric Ollison, Savannah, Ga., Byron Murphy, Montgomery, Phillip Ollison, Lisman, Synetric (Chris) Coleman and Yolanda (Bobby) Cheeks, Birmingham, Reneasha Gardner, Greenville and Jacquelin Ollison, Lisman; ten great-grandchildren, one aunt, Lois Lee Spurling, Detroit, Mich., caretaker and friend Annie Marsh, a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends, and the Mt. Zion Senior Center Program.
