Funeral services for Bertha Hunter, age 95, will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 11 a.m. from Antioch Baptist Church, Mr. Willing with the Rev. Ruben Washington and pastor Dale Braxton officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Willing Cemetery with Hudson Funeral Services of Greenville directing.
Mrs. Hunter entered her early life July 11, 1915, born to John Wesley and Corene Moorer in Dutch Bend. In her early life she met and married Follie Hunter Sr. After 20 years, this marriage was terminated by Mr. Hunter’s death. Mrs. Hunter departed this life on January 9, 2011 at L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital.
Her first birth was George Hunter Sr. (deceased). Annie C., Mt. Willing, Edna Mae (Henry) Wilson, Buffalo, N.Y., Cora M. Scott, Jacksonville, Fla., Follie Hunter Jr. (deceased), Vernell, Lena (Jimmy) Ridgeway. Fort Deposit, Addison (Janet) Hunter, Greenville, Dorothy Adams (deceased), James (Laura) Hunter, Mt. Willing, and Rosie L. (J.C.) McMeans, Fort Deposit. Mrs. Hunter’s Christian affiliation began at home she became a member of Zion Chapel A.M.E. Zion, Dutch Bend. After marriage, she united with the New Salem Baptist Church, Braggs. Following the death of her husband she moved to Greenville and joined the Pine Level Baptist Church. In 1961 she and her family moved to Mt. Willing and were united with the Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor B.S. Whiting. After declining health she moved to Fort Deposit under the watchful care of Lean and Rosie, her daughters. Mrs. Hunter leaves to cherish her memories: four daughters, two sons, 34 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
