Head coach Kirk Norris said his Panther’s started flat, but managed to pull away with the 39-34 win.

“We didn’t play well for about three quarters,” Norris said. “Fourth quarter, we really stepped up. I think our full court pressure got to them.”

Norris said that Straughn started fouling late in the fourth.

“We got fouled several times, but we managed to make 7 out of 9 attempts,” Norris said. “Its good to know that your players can make free throws, especially in clutch situations.”

Rodney Cheatham lead the Panthers with 10 points and 6 assists with teammate Lee Curry also picking up 10 points, with 7 rebounds and 2 steals.

Straughn 44 – Georgiana 24

The Lady Panthers couldn’t get their offense rolling, only picking up 10 points in the first half to Straughn’s 22. Straughn continued consistently picking up points, scoring another 22 points in the second half to 14 from Georgiana.

Michelle Campbell scored half of Georgiana’s points, with 12 total game points, with Aleshia Cheatham picking up 5.

Coach Joseph Edwards said this season has been a rollercoaster so far.

“We started out the season winning games, being one of the most aggressive team I have coached in a while,” Edwards said. “But I lost both of my guards, including my leading scorer and leader rebounds, and they won’t be back for two more weeks.”

Right now, Edwards said, he is just working on scoring more points and incorporating a press into the team’s defense.

“Hopefully we can start winning some more ball games,” Edwards said.
