Cougars romp over Abbeville

The Crenshaw Christian Cougars started Friday’s game by scoring twice without an offensive play on the way to a 40-8 win over Abbeville Christian.

Jud Sutley recovered a fumble in the endzone for CCA’s first points, and following Abbeville’s next possession, Michael D’Arville added six more with a 69-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Most of the Cougars’ scoring was done on the ground – CCA had 33 rushes for 331 yards.

Kyle Furr was the leading rusher with 14 carries for 195 yards, but he was unable to make it into the endzone.

Gavin McKenzie rushed for 48 yards and Shaun Lewis had 43 yards rushing.

Lewis and quarterback Pete King scored rushing touchdowns for the Cougars.

King also connected with Austin Stephens for a 26-yard touchdown pass.

Before the game was over, D’Arville also returned a punt 64 yards for a touchdown.

Lewis also got it done of the defensive end with seven tackles and an interception.

Will Moses was the leading tackler with eight, and D’Arville also came up with an interception.

The Cougars move to 3-0 on the season.
