The Brantley Bulldogs opened the 2010 season the same way they ended the 2009 season: with a win.
The Bulldogs traveled to Red Level and defeated the Tigers 38-6.
Jared Wiley started things off right for Brantley by taking the opening kickoff 62 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
With 9:20 left in the first quarter, Devonte Porter broke loose for 32 yards.
Brantley went up 19-0 on a 20-yard touchdown run by Zach Wiley with 9:26 left in the second quarter.
Before the half was over, the Porter and Wiley each had another score – one a one-yard run and the other a 53-yard touchdown run.
Red Level’s lone touchdown came in the second quarter following an interception by the Tigers’ James Feagin.
Brantley scored the only touchdown of the second half at the five-minute mark of the third quarter on a 12-yard touchdown catch by Reed Kilcrease.
“I thought we had a pretty good night,” said head coach David Lowery. “Any time you can start with an opening kick return for a touchdown, it helps. We did some good things, but we’ve got a lot of things that need work, like our point-after kicks.”
The Bulldogs host Kinston next week in Brantley.
