Luverne’s fireworks display set for July 4

Crenshaw County residents looking for a show on the Fourth of July won’t have far to go as Luverne’s fireworks show returns this year.
While last year’s event ran into problems with planning and funding, mayor Joe Rex Sport said the city and Chamber of Commerce have been working on this event for a while.
“We got up with the state fire marshal and worked out what we could do while still meeting the regulations and avoiding all the expense,” Sport said.
Fireworks are regulated by the federal government, which classifies them into several different categories.
By using a smaller class of fireworks, the city isn’t required to hire a pyrotechnician to run the show.
“We talked with several fireworks dealers and got the price within reason,” Sport said. “We hope to have a nice display.”
The show will be held at 8:30 p.m. on July 4 at Turner Park in Luverne.
The concession stand will open around 7 p.m.
“This is something the community enjoys, and we’re looking forward to it,” Sport said.
