Angels and Darlings prepping for Friday

With the sub-district tournament fast approaching, both the Greenville Angels and Darlings All-Star teams are prepping for competition.
While the Darlings coach says fielding is her team’s strength, the Angels say pitching is their forte.
“We hope to represent Greenville well,” said Darlings’ coach Kimberley Langford. “We have a really good infield. We happen to have some real good athletes on our team.”
Langford said batting practice has been the focus of their preparations.
Regina Coker, Angels’ coach, said for her team, mental preparation is as important as mastering the skills of the game.
“It’s a challenge getting them to realize that All-Stars is a lot different from the regular season,” Coker said.
During the regular season, Coker explained, when a pitcher walks four in a row, the coach comes in and pitches, a rule that does not apply to All-Star play.
Fortunately, she said, they are deep in the pitching department.
“We have some backups, about five pitchers in all,” Coker said.
The two teams plan to face each other in a scrimmage Tuesday to get some more practice in before Friday’s competition.
The game will be held at McNaughton Field and begin at 5:30 p.m.
