Joseph Dean has been hired as the new principal of Escambia County High School, according to The Atmore Advance.

Dean was unanimously approved by the Escambia County Board of Education on Thursday afternoon.

Dean served as principal of the Butler County Magnet School before being named interim superintendent in the fall of 2009 following Mike Looney’s departure. He has served in that capacity ever since and was initially a candidate for the superintendent’s job in Butler County before withdrawing his name.

The Butler County Board of Education named Darren Douthitt as superintendent in March.
