Illegal garbage dump sites are beginning to get the attention of the Crenshaw County Commission.
At Monday’s meeting, commissioner Ricky McElwain brought up a site on Roper Road in District One.
Commission administrator David Smyth said the next step in the process comes from county Solid Waste Enforcement Officer Johnny Hollis, who will get the GPS coordinates for the site and pass that along to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.
“Brent Watson, who works with ADEM, will then begin the process to clean it up,” Smyth said.
This move to clean up the illegal dump comes the week after the statewide “Don’t Drop It on Alabama” campaign, which was spearheaded by the commission in Crenshaw County.
In other business, the commission discussed the progress of road repairs and funds from FEMA.
The county identified 125 sites for assistance, and after just over a week and a half of work, 16 sites have been finished.
Some 17 sites are still in progress.
