A Sunday drive went awry for four teens when their sedan was struck by an 18-wheeler at the intersection of South Conecuh Street and U.S. 31.
Capt. Garry Martin said eyewitness reports say the driver looked both ways after stopping at the stop sign. The 18-wheeler struck the ‘91 Maxima between the leading edge of the driver side door and the left front fender.
The driver was airlifted to Baptist South, and Martin reported that she was doing “better.” The three passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to L.V. Stabler.
Martin said the driver was fortunate that the 18-wheeler noticed her pulling out.
“When the 18-wheeler saw the car, it swerved hard and hit her at about at 45 degree angle,” Martin said. “If he would have T-boned her, she’d would probably be dead now.”
