This July 4 there will be no fireworks over the Camellia City. The Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce has decided to cancel its “Celebrate America” festivities for 2010.
Budget constraints forced the decision, said Laura Sadowski, GACOC administrative assistant.
“The funds just weren’t there this year. That doesn’t mean we won’t bring it back in the future,” Sadowski said.
The Chamber is planning to host a concert event in October to coincide with the Alabama Year of Small Towns and Downtowns.
“There are going to be lots of events going on that weekend such as Old Time Farm Day here in the county, so it should be lots of fun,” Sadowski said.
Other upcoming GACOC-sponsored events include:
*Spring Fling with Mickey and The Gang in Confederate Park, Saturday, May 1.
*Achiever Awards at the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church beginning at 6:30 p.m. May 6.
*Bright House Day at the Chamber Depot May 20.
