James W. “Red” Baker
BAKER, Mr. James W. “Red”, 76, a resident of Luverne, AL died Wednesday, February 10, 2010.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 11 AM from Turner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Jones and Rev. William Leverette officiating.
Interment will follow in Rutledge Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mr. Baker is preceded in death by his son, Thomas “Tom Tom” Baker; his parents, John & Jennie Baker; and his sister, Mae Powell.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Oma L. Baker; two sons, James William (Donna) Baker and Ronald (Susie) Baker; four grandchildren, Ashley (John) Baker, Xanthe (Kevin) Myrick, Kesha Baker, and Kebrina Baker; two great grandchildren, Troy Myrick and Saraah Baker; and one sister, Shirley Morrell. Active pallbearers were Billy Brazell, Kevin Myrick, Henry King, Earl Cosby, Shelton Morrell, and Robert Fisher.
Samuel Vernon Flowers, Sr.
FLOWERS, Samuel Vernon, Sr. a resident of Luverne, AL passed away February 13, 2010 at the age of 83.
A memorial service was held at Patsburg Baptist Church on Monday, February 15 at 11 a.m.
Mr. Flowers served in the Navy during WWII and was a longtime member of the Shriners.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Julie Jones Flowers; children, Faye F. Bloodworth, Wayne Flowers, Thomas Jones Flowers, Samuel Vernon Flowers, Jr., Ellen Flowers-Cornelius; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and brother, Jack L. Flowers of Foley, AL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crenshaw County Shriners or Crenshaw Christian Academy.
Leland Head
HEAD, Mr. Leland, 78, a resident of Luverne, AL died Wednesday, February 10, 2010.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 2 PM from Turner Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. John Mills and Bro. Keith Dixon officiating.
Interment followed in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mr. Head is preceded in death by his parents, Eddie & Sallie Lou Walker Head; his brother, Eland Head; and daughter-in-law, Mona Head.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sarah Dorman Head; three children, Lisa Head Bewley, Randy Head, and Ricky Head; four grandchildren, Jenna Styron, Chance Styron, Alex Head, and Lee Durden; one great grandchild, Stephen Lee Durden; his sister, Eunice Langford; and brother, Billy Joe (Erlene) Head.
Active pallbearers were James Dorman, Alex Head, Ray Gillespie, Chance Styron, Lee Durden, and Mason Radcliff. Honorary pallbearers include Paul King, Willie Hilburn, and Donald Hilburn.
Evelyn Adams Lansdon
LANSDON, Mrs. Evelyn Adams, 82, a resident of Grady, died Sunday, February 14, 2010.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 2 PM from Turner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lavon Davis officiating.
Interment will follow in Helicon Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mrs. Lansdon is preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Lansdon; one son, Edward L. Lansdon; parents, Sam and Robertie Stough Adams; one sister, Mildred Adams Chestnut.
She is survived by three sons, Ronald A. (Dianne) Lansdon, John C. (Candy) Lansdon and Joe C. (Kim) Lansdon; one daughter in law, Marianne Lansdon; seven grandchildren, Melissa Lansdon (Rob) Reynolds, Charles “Chuck” David (Jennifer) Lansdon, Scott Edward Lansdon, Matt Allen Lansdon, Adam Brent (Angie) Lansdon, Brett Joseph Lansdon, and Megan Jill Lansdon; three great grandchildren, Valerie Lansdon, John Robert Reynolds and Michael Reynolds; two sisters, Ruth Adams Smith and Helen Adams (Neal) Armstrong; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Lansdon is a retired employee of the Department of Public Safety with the State of Alabama.
Active pallbearers will be Richard Jordan, Jimmy Jordan, Harold Nelson, Steven Holliday, Jim Wingard and George Browder.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 PM to 8 PM.
Lena Oglesby Walker
WALKER, Mrs. Lena Oglesby, 83, a resident of Glenwood, died Sunday,
February 14, 2010. Funeral services were held at 2 pm on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at the Glenwood Assembly of God with Rev. Dan Marler officiating.
Interment followed at Providence Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mrs. Walker is preceded in death by her husband, Johnny H. Walker; son, Randy L. Walker; daughter, Diane M. Walker; daughter in law, Sherry Walker; parents, Bud and Annie Oglesby; four sisters, Lessie Corley, Ollie Norris, Mattie Gibson and Christine Moncrief; three brothers, Bill Oglesby, Roy S. Oglesby and Clelar Oglesby.
She is survived by two sons, Robbie (Donna) Walker and Rickie (Carmon) Walker; daughter in law, Julia Walker; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and her sister, Mary Walker; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers were Ricky Bryan, Sam Walker, Mike Tisdale, Derrick Hughes, Danny Ray Walker, Tim Davis and Johnny McCrary.
