Sam Durant

Sam Durant died September 15, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Damascus Baptist Church, 1281 Barganier Lane, Greenville, with the Rev. Wiley Thornton officiating. James Herbert Funeral Home of Greenville is directing.
Mr. Durant was born on October 7, 1927 in Forest Home. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Rock West Baptist Church. He later joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church where he served on the deacon’s board, directed the choir and served as musician. He later united with Damascus Baptist Church where he also served as deacon a musician. He remained a faithful member until his health no longer permitted him to attend.
He was preceded in death by his mother, the late Maggie McQuator Durant and his fathers, Charlie Durant and Willie Gulley; four brothers, Vodie Durant, Jeremiah Durant, Jimmy Lee Durant, Jack Durant; his loving sister, Jessie Lee Womack,; three children, Peggy Durant, Allan Durant and Arthur Durant.
He leaves to cherish his memories Annie Jewell (James) Cheatham, Huntsville; Edna (Robert) Hardy of Montgomery; June Durant and Larry Durant of Pensacola; Anthony (Dorothy) Durant of Montgomery; Marilyn Motley, Kimberly Gordon of Pensacola; a devoted sister and brother-in-law Lizzie and Samuel Grace of Fresno, Calif.; a loving brother and sister-in-law Charlie Will and Edwina Durant of Greenville; 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends and neighbors/
