Luverne fans got their first look at the 2009 Tigers last Friday night as LHS hosted both Greenville and Daleville in a fall jamboree.
Luverne came out with a 7-0 win over the Warhawks but fell to Greenville 21-6.
“I was real pleased with our effort,” said head coach Les Sanders.
The Tigers’ score over Daleville came on a 25-yard pass reception from Ryan McGhee.
Against Greenville, Luverne jumped out to an early lead after a quarterback sneak from Monterio May, but Greenville scored three unanswered touchdowns.
“We made some preseason mistakes, but the good thing is that those can be corrected,” Sanders said. “Any time you play good competition like this, you’ll find out what your weaknesses are.”
One positive thing that came out of the jamboree came from the number of players that saw playing time.
“Our second team did really well, and I’m pleased with them,” Sanders said.
Luverne opens the season at home this Friday against arch-rival Brantley, who has won seven straight over the Tigers.
