Richard Wayne Burkette, 72, of Walnut Hill, Fla., died Friday, July 31, 2009 at his residence. He was a river boat captain, born in Butler County on August 10, 1936 to the late Guy and Lizzie Belle Bass Burkette.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at 10 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel in Atmore.
He is preceded by his wife, Virginia Claudett Burkette and a grandson, Ryan Burkette. Survivors include: three sons, Mark J. Burkette and wife, Blair, of Bay Minette, Richard W. Burkette Jr. and wife, Janet, of Mobile, Guy Burkette and wife, Chollette of Quincy, Fla.; one daughter, Karen Burkette of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, James Burkette and wife, Lona, of Carabelle, Fla., and eight grandchildren.
