Elton Johnson

Elton L. Johnson, age 91, a resident of Greenville, died on Thursday, June 11, 2009. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2009, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Patton officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Saturday.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sue D. Johnson, son, Pierce Dunn Johnson, grandchildren, Cathy Wylie, Stacey Anderson Johnson, Jeremy Elton Johnson, and brother, Robert Turner Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was in the jewelry business for 30 years and was President of the Alabama Retail Jewelers Association. He served as Mayor of Greenville, from 1964-1968 and also served on the City council for four years. He was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School class of First Baptist Church of Greenville for 63 years. Mr. Johnson was also a member of the Eureka Lodge and Rotary Club of Greenville for 54 years during which time he served as Secretary, Treasurer, and President. He was presented the Paul Harris Fellow award for outstanding service from the Greenville Rotary Club and had perfect attendance 1946-2000.
