The Butler County Optimist Club held their annual banquet on Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Professional Men’s Community Center in Greenville.
Christine Lewis served as mistress of order, while Annie Womack welcomed guests to the event.
Latorya Hawthorne and the First Baptist Church youth provided special music. Rev. Robert Lewis offered prayer and grace before dinner.
E.R. Hudson introduced the speaker for the evening, the Rev. Allen W. Stephenson, Butler County circuit clerk and pastor of the First Baptist Church of Georgiana. Rev. Stephenson centered his speech around “The Importance of Your Attitude.”
“Your attitude reveals you,” he said.
“What is on the inside of a person comes out. Attitude causes people to like or dislike you.”
Stephenson also encouraged his audience to speak positive words at all times and to look for the good in everyone.
Mrs. Lewis complimented Rev. Stephenson on the beautiful presentation that he made.
Presentations were made to Rev. Stephenson by Optimist president Clara G. Hudson. Members of the Optimists were introduced along with the adult and youth kings and queens.
Special guests present were Rep. Charles Newton, James Adams, Willie Haygood, Dorothy Irvin and Mrs. Ward.
