Alberta Powell Pugh, 78, a longtime resident of Greenville, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2009 in Birmingham. Funeral Services, a longtime residence of Greenville, Alabama was Saturday, May 30 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Ida Missionary Baptist Church, Greenville, the Rev. Michael Pouncey, Pastor. Rev. Laura J. Harris, Associate Pastor of Mt. Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, Talladega officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Mrs. Puch did lie in repose at the church Saturday from 11 a.m. until funeral hour. She was a member of Mt. Ida Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir, was a member of the willing workers and the eastern star. Mrs. Pugh was known for singing throughout the city and surrounding counties. In 2005, she moved to Talladega and joined Mt. Canaan Missionary Baptist Church under “Watch Care.” She was a member of the senior choir.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Joseph Pugh, Sr.; her children, Gilbert, Joseph, Jr. and Mary Pugh; parents, Henry “Cat” Powell and Lula Moorer Powell; 3 siblings, Binger Moorer, Gene Moorer, C. J. Moorer and Anna Crittenden; a daughter-in-law, Katie Pugh. Survivors are sons, Willie Pugh and Douglas Pugh of Greenville, Alvin (Gwen) Pugh of Montgomery, AL; daughters, Ruthie (Willie) McMeans, Marilyn (Garrick) Peagler, Myra (Coleman) Ball and Pamela Pugh, all of Greenville, Laura (Johnny) Harris of Talladega; daughter-in-law, Eddie Pugh of Greenville; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Friday, May 29 from 6-7 p.m. at Terry’s Mortuary. Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary of Talladega directed the services.
