Lions’ Memorial Day program scheduled
Mark your calendars: the Greenville Lions are bringing back their annual Memorial Day Celebration.
The event is set to kick off in Confederate Park downtown at 9 a.m. Monday, May 25. This year’s program will give special attention to area Vietnam veterans.
Live music mixed with a patriotic program are scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon with a brief speech by Rear Admiral Peter Booth, USN, a Vietnam vet and author, set for 11 a.m.
Posting of the Colors, a flyover and the playing of Taps will all be part of the program, along with the traditional Walk of Honor featuring all veterans.
Local Boy Scouts and the Greenville High School Honor Guard are expected to participate, with a display of armament courtesy of the local National Guard Armory also in the works.
“We welcome all area veterans and their families and the families of those who sacrificed their lives in service to their country to come and join us,” said Lion president Hubert Little. – Angie Long
