The third softball matchup of the season between the McKenzie Tigers and Georgiana Panthers went to the Tigers last Friday by a score of 9-1.
“It was good for us to play and get a game in after all the rain we’ve had,” said McKenzie head coach Miles Brown.
The Tigers drew first blood in the game when Jenni Ballard scored in the first inning.
Georgiana came back to tie the game in the third inning following a hit to left field by Anna Nelson.
Thelsea Scott came through with an RBI for the Panthers to bring Nelson in.
Unfortunately for the Panthers, McKenzie dominated the rest of the game.
Nicky Lee and Kaylyn Brown scored in the third inning, and the Tigers loaded the bases in the fourth inning.
However, Georgiana’s Nelson was able to pitch her way out of the jam and the Tigers came away without any runs.
McKenzie made up for it in the fifth inning by blowing the game open with runs from Jenni Ballard, Kristen Ballard, Anna Howell, Aleshia Stuckey, A.J. Sanford and Brittany Guard.
Georgiana head coach Michael Spencer said that the rain also affected his team, but he got some solid play out of younger players despite the layoff.
“Taylor Coxwell played out of position for us, and she did well in the field,” he said. “She also did a good job on offense.”
