The halls were appropriately decked and the lights were aglow in Chapman last Thursday night.
Members and guests of the Three Arts Club of Georgiana and Chapman gathered at the home of Becky and Harry Manning for their annual Christmas Celebration. Plenty of evergreen swags and wreaths trimmed with red bows decorated the interior of the home, where guests also enjoyed the Mannings’ extensive collection of Santa figures, angels and charming village scenes.
“I say I do this for the grandchildren, but in truth I enjoy it a lot myself,” said Becky of her festively trimmed abode.
Following a special Christmas-themed devotional based on 1 Corinthians:13, given by Lorraine Casey, the ladies enjoyed a hearty supper of roast beef, homemade bread, green beans, potatoes and carrot soufflé, followed cranberry nut cake topped with sweetened whipped cream prepared by their hostess, Becky.
After the meal, it was time for the annual gift exchange, with everyone drawing a number that matched one of the many brightly wrapped presents under the tree. The evening ended with songs, from a number of traditional Christmas carols and children’s songs, to hymns such as “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace.”
The four young women awarded scholarships through the Three Arts Club – Tyler Manning, Haley Stinson, Emily Holder and Amy Campbell – attended the event and had the opportunity to briefly share their own college and career plans.
In addition to scholarships, the organization aids those in need in the community, Becky said.
Members brought canned goods that will be donated to a local senior citizen to the party.
Funds raised through their annual bazaar and Hank Williams Festival program sales also go to aid those who need assistance in times of medical crisis, bereavement and unemployment.
“We are so excited at what our club is able to do for the south part of the county. We raise approximately $14,000 a year that we turn around and give back to the community,” Becky said.
The Three Arts Club is also in charge of the Rose Memorial Library in downtown Georgiana.
“We have a great library and Betsy Waggoner does a wonderful job managing it,” Becky said.
