Don D. Herndon Jr., age 81, a resident of Greenville, died on December 1, 2008. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Greenville, with Rev. Joe Lisenby, Rev. Robert Cruikshank, and Rev. Steve Smith officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 2 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home.
Mr. Herndon was preceded in death by his parents, Don D. and Sadie Jones Herndon. He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn B. Herndon, daughter, Donna Herndon of Mobile, AL, step-daughters, Jan (Fred) Gurr of Atlanta, GA, Marie (Mitch) Baldree of Chattanooga, Tenn., step-sons, William B. (April) Farrar of Greenville, Thomas B. (Karen) Farrar of Troy; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Charlotte Watson of Birmingham, special cousins, Sara (Jack) Lee of Montgomery and Ethel Middleton of Decatur.
Mr. Herndon served in many capacities including owner of Dunklin Herndon Funeral Home in Greenville, president of Butler County United Way, president of Greenville Country Club, president of Alabama Funeral Directors Association, Chairman of Administration Board at First United Methodist Church of Greenville, member of the Industrial Development Board of Butler County.
Active pallbearers will be Billy Middleton, Millard Barnes, Bill Watson, Jr., Thomas Farrar, Daniel Farrar, Will Farrar, Allen Vinson, and Tim Mergler. Honorary pallbearers will be Jennie Beeland Sunday School Class, Walter Parmer, Bill Simms, Jim Green, Frank Smyser, and Charles Coghlan.
