Since 1936, the Walter O. Parmer Trust has provided scholarships to deserving students from the six counties of Butler, Conecuh, Covington, Crenshaw, Lowndes and Wilcox.

To date, nearly 500 recipients of the Parmer Scholarship have obtained degrees from the University of Alabama, Auburn University or Vanderbilt University.

A reunion of the Parmer Scholars is being planned for spring 2009 at the Pioneer Cemetery in Greenville. This is the site of Walter O. Parmer’s grave. The Parmer Scholars are supporting the effort to restore the historic cemetery in honor of their benefactor.
