Students from Brantley High School, Crenshaw Christian Academy, Highland Home High School and Luverne High School assembled together to participate in Teen Summit 2008 on Sunday, October 12. The mission of the Teen Summit was to help the youth of Crenshaw County to gain knowledge that will enable them to make wise decisions, live in dignity, work productively, and achieve their dreams.
To a crowd of approximately 250, keynote speaker Brent Cosby, Behavioral Psychologist of Laurel Oaks Behavioral Health Center, addressed issues of modern day teens. Included among the topics was that of dating violence. “Showcasing Crenshaw County’s Talent” was a highlight of the event. Performances were provided by the Word of Faith Praise Team from Brantley High School; Anna Culver and Danielle Welch, Crenshaw Christian Academy; and Samantha Juez and Brittany Cauthen, Highland Home High School. Following the awarding of the door prizes, the students enjoyed refreshments provided by school organizations and local churches.
The event was sponsored by the Crenshaw County Domestic Violence Task Force, coordinated by Gloria Linton, Luverne High School Guidance Counselor, and hosted by South Luverne Baptist Church.
