Greenville opens region play with Carver

The Greenville Tigers are opening up their region schedule at home this year against Carver, who recently made the drop from 6A to 5A.
Greenville is coming off a tough loss to rival Charles Henderson, and the Wolverines put up an offensive show last week in a 50-7 win over Jeff Davis.
“Carver is a very good team,” said head coach Ben Blackmon. “If you can put up 50 points against a 6A team, that’s pretty good.”
Greenville had some experience with Carver last year, when the Tigers fell to the Wolverines in a preseason game.
“This is a different team from last year’s Carver team,” Blackmon said. “They’ve even got a different coach.”
The Tigers also have a list of things to improve upon after the loss to Troy.
“We played hard, but we made some mistakes,” he said. “You expect that in the first game, though. We played four hard quarters, and that says a lot.”
He said Greenville will spend this week focusing on themselves, and that good teams make the most improvements between week one and week two.
“We’re going to try to do that,” Blackmon said.
The game also marks the home opener for the Tigers, and Blackmon said he wants a big crowd to cheer the Tigers on.
“We want everyone to wear black and gold and to come out and be loud,” he said.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
