Fort Dale Academy head coach James ‘Speed' Sampley has been named as the AISA Class AAA Coach of the Year.
Sampley, who led Fort Dale to a semifinal appearance and a 10-2 record this season, wrapped up his eighth season at the helm of the Eagles.
The Eagles finished with a 9-1 regular season record, the best since Sampley's arrival, and made the Class AAA playoffs for the seventh consecutive season.
Sampley won a State title at Lowndes Academy before coming to Fort Dale and led the Eagles to the Championship game in 2000.
Sampley will also serve as an assistant coach during the AISA All-Star game at Memorial Stadium in Selma Friday at 7 p.m.
Joining Sampley at the All-Star game will be three Eagle players.
Seniors Cory Johnson, Blake Conway and Dalton Gregory were all selected as members of the All-Star team and will compete in the East vs. West game.
Sampley said he expects Johnson to play center, Conway to play defensive line and Gregory to play linebacker, but he said he won't be sure until everyone gets up to Selma and he has a chance to see where he is coaching.
