Troy Nationals rout Greenville, 12-1

Greenville managed just two hits against a Troy Nationals team that scattered six hits in a 12-1 first-round setback in the Dixie Youth District Tournament at Day Park on Thursday.

Stuart Matthews scored the lone run for Greenville in the fourth inning on a fielder's choice by Todd Burkett.

Gray Vinson and Matthews each had a double for Greenville.

Troy jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and then tacked on a run in the third and three more in the fourth. Troy put the cap on an easy victory by scoring five more runs in the fifth inning.

Michael Benton led Troy with three hits, including two doubles and a home run in the fifth inning. Benton finished with four RBIs.

Tuesday's games

Enterprise 3, Luverne 1

Enterprise only managed two hits on the afternoon, but it was able to make each one count to hold off Luverne.

Luverne jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Nic Kilpatrick scored on a RBI single by Nate Welch. Luverne held on to the lead until the fourth inning when Enterprise finally scratched the scoreboard.

Rhett Harrelson crushed a solo home run with one out to tie the game.

Enterprise then added two more runs in the fifth, including what turned out to be the game-winner on a walk by Patrick Stinson. Stinson drew the free pass with the bases loaded to score Jacob Malkoff.

Troy American 6, Hartford 2

Battling from a 2-0 deficit early, Troy American scattered nine hits and scored six runs to advance to the second round of the tournament.

Jalin Lawson and Michael Fox led Troy American with two hits, including a double.

Troy fell behind 2-0 when Hartford's Patrick Fondren crushed a pitch over the center-field fense for a two-run home run.

Troy tied the game in the third inning on a two RBI hit by Kane Meredith.

Troy then jumped ahead in the fourth on a RBI double by Lawson. Lawson then scored on a sacrifice fly by Blake Hutchinson.

Troy added a run in the fifth and sixth inning to put the game on ice.

Meredith put the final touches on Troy's win with a lead-off solo home run in the sixth.

Troy National 2, Slocomb 1

Evan Strother's one-out RBI single to center field scored Shane Snider as the game-winning run for Troy in the sixth inning to edge Slocomb.

Alex White and Strother led Troy National with two hits each.

Slocomb was held hitless by Troy National pitcher Layton Grant. He allowed two walks and struck out 13.

Noah Justice drew a lead-off walk in the first inning for Slocomb and scored on a wild pitch.
