Greenville eliminates Ponytails

Greenville moved another step closer to a Dixie Ponytails sub-district championship Monday night. The Greenville All-Star squad jumped out to a 9-0 lead after two innings over host Luverne and cruised to an easy 13-1 victory to advance to the semifinals of the tournament.
Luverne's lone run of the game came in the bottom of the third inning when Nicole Wallace scored on a wild pitch by McDonald, who came on in the inning to relieve starter Courtnee Meyers.
Elba, which beat Greenville 5-1, on Friday fell to Andalusia 10-0 in five innings on Monday, so the three remaining teams each had one loss.
So to break the tie, a coin toss was used to determine which team would sit out until the 8 p.m. championship game on Tuesday and which two would battle it out for the right to face Elba.
Elba was the odd team out, so it waited for the winner of Greenville and Andalusia to play the championship.
Fighting its way through the loser's bracket after falling to Elba, Greenville knocked out Coveington County 9-8 on Saturday and then eliminated Luverne on Monday.
Greenville jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the game and then tacked on five more runs in the second thanks in large part to an inside the park three-run home run by Erin Taylor.
