Mr. George L. Nichols, 85, died May 24, 2005.

Funeral services were held at Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel with burial that followed in Valhalla Cemetery.

The Rev. Nick Gaines of Benton Assembly of God officiated.

Mr. Nichols was born July 29, 1919 in Benton to Jimmie Farmer Nichols and Louella Newsome.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Jewell Shirley Nichols; brothers, Charlie, Jimmie, and Wysee; sisters, Lucy, Lula, Nellie, and Leana.

He is survived by one sister Lurlean Chav-ers, and daughters Bobbie (Carl) Tucker, Gwen (Wayne) Taylor, Regi-na Thompson, and Deborah Nichols, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He also leaves many other relative and friends whom he cherished dearly. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served as a Coxswain on the ship LST 1020 in the European Theater as well as the Pacific Theater.
