Getting adapted to new things takes time.
That's why the Luverne Police Department is giving motorists that travel through the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Jeffcoat Street some slack.
Two extra stop signs will be installed today making it a four-way stop. The LPD will not issue tickets to those who run the four-way stop throughout the month.
"We're giving residents of that area and the motorists that travel through the area a 30-day grace period before we start issuing citations to those that run the four-way stop," LPD Police Chief Bob Davis said.
The LPD performed a 30-day survey at the intersection and made a recommendation to the city council that it be made a four-way stop. The council approved it in mid-October.
"It's standard for us to give a 30-day grace period until motorists become aware of the change," Davis said.
After the 30-day get out of a ticket period, the LPD will begin issuing citations.
