Georgiana High School football games will be a bit brighter this upcoming season.
Thanks to more than a $30,000 appropriation by the Butler County Board of Education last spring, the school’s field will brighten up this fall.
Since June, field workers for GT Key Company of Montgomery have been battling rain as they’ve attempted to finish installing three new poles and 54 new light fixtures. Each pole consists of 18 light fixtures.
&uot;We’ve been held up by the rain,&uot; a GT Key employee said Tuesday morning.
Butler County School Superintendent Dr. Mike Reed said he is just glad to see the work nearing completion.
&uot;It makes me feel good,&uot; Reed said. &uot;That’s going to make all the difference as far as the field and the illumination. It feels real good to have all that done.&uot;
GT Key Company installed one new pole and 18 fixtures after a pole on the home side fell to the ground following a storm that produced high winds.
Following the storm, Reed and the board decided it was time to go ahead and have every pole replaced.
&uot;It was time to do it,&uot; Reed said. &uot;Last year a storm came through and blew down one pole and after that we saw that we had to replace the other poles.&uot;
Georgiana Athletic Director Keith York was unavailable for comment.
