Senator Walking Wendell Mitchell is a native of Luverne and is presently serving his sixth term in the Alabama State Senate.

He is a graduate of the Crenshaw County public schools and holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Auburn University and a Law Degree from the University of Alabama.
In addition to his senate duties, Mitchell is Dean Emeritus of Jones Law School, is a member of the Luverne Rotary Club and the Alabama and American Bar Associations. He serves on the Senate Finance Committee, Governmental Affairs Committee and the Fiscal Responsibility and Accountability Committee.
Mitchell is a member of the Church of Christ. He is married to Rosalind McBride Mitchell of Greenville and they have three children.
Senator Mitchell’s district includes all of Autauga, Butler, Crenshaw and Pike Counties and parts of Elmore and Lowndes Counties.
