Lady Tigers lose to Hillcrest, 65-59

In a disappointing match-up, the Lady Tigers lost to the Hillcrest Lady Jags, 65-59, Tuesday night.
In the beginning Greenville High School was on fire, outscoring Hillcrest 24 to 5, posting a hefty lead for the first quarter.
The Lady Tigers’ Kalette Mixon was the queen of the court in the first round with eight points, followed by Aundrea Stewart with six. Katoria McDonald and Jessica Powell got on the scoreboard with three points each, and Latoya Durant and DeAndra Sturgeon added two points apiece.
The second quarter saw Hillcrest come alive, as they gained on the Lady Tigers’ lead by putting 23 points in the net. GHS managed only 12, but maintained the lead.
Hillcrest’s Stephanie Rudolph sank 10 points, including a three-pointer. LaWanda Mitchell and Andrell Baxter tacked on six points each.
Candi Jackson put in a three-pointer and Candice Mims came up with two.
GHS seemed to hiccup, posting only 12 points in the second period as Mixon and Stewart took a seat. Six players – Durant, McDonald, Mitchell, Powell, Savage and Robinson – all contributed to the pot with two points apiece. But the Lady Tigers held on to end the half ahead, 36-28.
But the hiccup became a gasp, when the Lady Jags put the spurs on for the final round. Stephanie Rudolph led the way with eight points in the third quarter, assisted by Ebony Jackson, who netted six points.
Hillcrest’s Baxter tacked on three free throws and LaWanda Mitchell and Jackson added one free throw each.
GHS could only manage seven in the third quarter, falling behind for the first time in the game. McDonald contributed four more to the score, and Savage and Robinson added two and one points, respectively.
The third period ended with the Lady Tigers lagging behind Hillcrest, 47-43.
The cats rebounded in the fourth quarter as Stewart got back into the action, dropping seven points through the hoop.
Durant came alive also adding four points to the mix, and Savage dropped in another three.
But the 16-point rally wasn’t enough as the Lady Jags, continued their spree with 16 points of their own.
Rudolph gained the fourth-quarter Hillcrest scoring honors putting in two baskets and three free throws for her seven-point final quarter total.
Next in line for the Lady Jags were LaWanda Mitchell and Baxter with four each.
Candice Mims tacked on two points, and Raven Rudolph got in the mix with one.
The Lady Jags came out on top, 65-59.
