Greenville man jailed on rape, kidnapping charges

Greenville Police officers, after being dispatched Sunday to take a complaint from a female, arrested a 35-year-old Greenville man, and placed him in jail on charges of rape, first degree and kidnapping, first degree.
&uot;Frederick Lane Kemp, 35, of Butler Estates was arrested at Reid Motel on Montgomery Hwy. at approximately 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, and placed in the Butler County Jail on charges of rape, first degree and kidnapping, first degree,&uot; a spokesman with the Greenville Police Department Investigative Division said on Tuesday.
The spokesman said this action was the result of a complaint signed shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday.
&uot;The victim, a 33-year-old black female said in her complaint that she was taken forcibly, and against her will from the coin laundry located at the corner of West Commerce and Oliver streets Sunday to the Reid Motel, where she allegedly was raped against her will,&uot; the spokesman said. &uot;We have arrest warrants signed for the two charges Kemp was jailed on.&uot;
He also said that although Kemp was arrested, the case is still under further investigation, and additional arrests are anticipated.
Records indicated on Tuesday evening that Kemp, after his initial appearance in District Court, is being held without bond.
